Multi-branched, deciduous shrub with rich red-purple foliage spring through fall.  Masses of small, light pink, fragrant flowers bloom in spring.

Purple black fruits in summer are small, sparse and inconspicuous.  The fruit does attract birds.

Easy to grow and extremely hardy.  Use as colorful accent in borders, foundations, entranceways.  Can also be used as screen, or informal or formal hedge.

Tolerates many types of soils and conditions.  Best in full sun to maintain color and produce denser foliage.
