Quercus palustris

The Pin Oak has a tall, straight trunk with a unique branching pattern.  The upper branches grow upright, the middle branches are horizontal and the lower branches are pendulous, giving this tree a beautiful and graceful, pyramidal outline.

Dark green, fine textured leaves are deeply cut and assume a russet, brown or red autumn color.  Leaves hang on longer than any other hardwood in the winter.  Acorns are a good source of food for wildlife.

Makes an excellent specimen as a lawn tree.  Good tree to use for lining both sides of a drive or street.

Prefers moist rich, acid, well-drained soil, but will tolerate wet soil.  Good for wet, boggy sites.
