Oak, Red
Quercus rubra

A stately tree native to central and eastern U.S. Is one of the most popular ornamental oaks. It is the fastest growing of all oaks and has the best fall color.

Leaves emerge pink-green in spring, mature to dark green with grayish undersides and then turn maroon-red or bright red in fall. Leaves persist on tree until early winter.

Short, stout trunk splits into several large branches 15-20 feet above the ground.  Pyramidal in youth, becoming rounded with age.  Grows best in sandy to rich loamy soil. Withstands urban conditions.

Quality shade tree for large lawns, streets, campuses, parks, industrial areas, etc.  Acorns are a good source of food for wildlife.
